A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was a middle school, Duncan Middle School, where Star Wars Day has come and gone.
Star Wars Day, which was the fifth theme-day for Red Ribbon Week, did not attract as many fanboys and girls as the “Star Wars” saga has attracted over the last 41 years or as many students as the other days have. Few students dressed for the day; however, some students went all out for the day.
From wearing a Princess Leia shirt to going full-out Darth Vader, some people are dressed up for the occasion.
Dan Bower, a sixth-grade student, dressed up as Darth Vader for Star Wars Day.
“Star Wars Day is my favorite,” Bower said. “A lot of people don’t like Star Wars. They think it’s weird, but I think it’s pretty cool.”
However, not everyone can say the same. Some people, like Lyneth Pineda, eighth-grade student, that “Star Wars” didn’t make sense as a theme day for Red Ribbon Week.
“I don’t think Star Wars Day really relates to the drug free topic; I mean, its drug-free, right?” Pineda said.
Star Wars day, along with the rest of Red Ribbon Week, has been a week dedicated to drug awareness, promoting a message to be drug free and to provide information on how drugs are bad for health and social reasons.
Red Ribbon Week concludes today with Favorite Movie Character Day, the end of the door-decorating contest and an assembly. The assembly is schedule for third hour and will involve a special presentation.
To participate in each of the six dress-up days, students have paid a dollar or paid $5 to take part in all of the days. The money is being used as a fundraiser for National Junior Honor Society.
