Tuesday, March 5th, 8th-grade students got the chance to enroll in their 9th-grade classes. The Duncan High School counselors traveled from the high school to talk to the 8th-grade students about high school and their enrollment.
Eastyn Casteel, an 8th-grade student, said, “Enrolling for high school classes was fun, exciting, stressful, and I feel like high school is going to be a lot better than middle school.”
At the high school, all students are required to take two years of Spanish classes or two years of technology classes.
Aiden Marsh, another 8th-grade student said, “I think my favorite class in high school will be Spanish because it allows me to communicate with others at another level.” Marsh also said he went to freshman focus and they also talked about the credits for high school.
At the end of February, the 27th, the high school held an event called Freshman Focus. This event was for all of the 8th-grade students who will be going into high school as a freshman. It was held to prepare future freshmen for what to expect in high school and allow them to join clubs early.
Casteel said, “I went to Freshman Focus, and at Freshman Focus they talked about all of the different clubs you could join, some of the classes you could take, and overall just prepared you for high school.” He said, “Some of the classes I want to take are aviation, stem/Biomed, golf, and weight lifting.” He also said, “ I think aviation is gonna be my favorite class in high school because I love planes and getting to know how they are built and how they work.
In high school, as a freshman, there are different electives students are allowed to take. Some of the electives include Spanish, art, weightlifting, technology, physical education, and some sports as well.
