We always think of lunchtime as a time to eat between classes, so our stomachs stop growling. But lunchtime is actually a giant social hour. It’s the most important part of the school day because we get to eat. When they serve pizza, it feels like a reward for doing nothing but classwork for hours.
Every table is full of friends laughing and telling jokes and making memories. It’s where we finally get to hear what happened in our other classes. We can talk about new movies or even argue about them. Sometimes, we even plan out our afternoons, like homework, we’re going to do and get done after school, or talk about our favorite sports or clubs.
Lunch grants us a break from boring classes and lets us talk to anyone inside or outside our classes. It’s how we learn to be humans and make friends. We figure out how to deal with different people, which can be tricky sometimes. If your friend was in a bad mood, you’d have to figure it out. Or you could accidentally spill your milk on someone. But it’s all good because it strengthens us and teaches us what to say or do in social interactions, inside or outside school. That’s just as important as anything we learn in class.
Everyone is different, but we’re still in it together during lunchtime. We’re sharing a meal for 30 minutes. It’s a long-needed break from all the school work, especially if you’re in 8th grade without a snack for 3rd hour.
So next time that lunch bell rings, remember you’re not just grabbing food. You’re walking into the best half-hour in school (except Mr. Miller’s room). Lunch is the perfect place to laugh with your friends and make memories you’ll never forget.
