Basketball just started its season, and the players are excited.
Although the eighth-grade boys first game didn’t go well, Jasper Link, a player for the team, said he thinks his team will have a good season this year.
“The grass won’t always be greener on the other side,” Link said.
He said he has a good team and thinks coach Isaac Mason is the best coach the team could ask for.
This is Link’s second year playing for Duncan Middle School, and he hopes this season will be fun for everyone.
Jorell Que, another eighth-grade boys basketball player, said the first game didn’t go well.
The Duncan Middle School eighth-grade boys team faced off against Elgin in the season opener. Elgin got the better of the Duncan Demons. Elgin scored 48 points to Duncan’s 23 point.
Que said the game went bad, and he thinks the team will likely lose the next game as well. He said the team the Demons are going up against is one they have lost to multiple times before.
He said it’s hard to tell if this season is going to be a good one since it is still the start of the season, but he’s a bit worried since this year started out like last year.
Que has been playing basketball for about four or five years and he hopes the team does well this season because the players have potential. He thinks this year’s hardest opponent will be Lawton Mac because the Lawton Mac players are big and good at basketball.
For Collins Budowsky, who plays on the eighth-grade girls basketball team, said she thinks her team will do well in the next game because she has a good team.
Budowsky said she expects her team to do better than last year because the team has improved over last year. She said Allison Cruz is the biggest scorer, who makes the most good shots for the team.
She also expects Lawton Mac to be one of the biggest competitors this year, along with Lawton Ike.
