Duncan Middle School was filled with excitement because they were hosting a toy drive. A toy drive is a community-driven capability directed at collecting toys and gifts for children in need during the giving season. The drives are often arranged by charitable organizations, schools, or even local businesses. It brings people together to ensure that children in need receive toys that make them feel better. People who participate are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys, which are then distributed to families facing financial problems.
Sally Wheeler, a seventh-grade English teacher, defined the to describe the toy drive in her own words “It’s a chance for students to give to the community and children in need.” Though Wheeler had yet to donate, she commented,” I haven’t yet, but I definitely plan to soon.” She says the toy drive is a great idea, and thinks great things about it,
Wheeler says “Anything to help others in need.”
Parker Sanders, a seventh-grader, described the toy drive in his words, “The toy drive is a great way to give back to those who might not have as much.” Sanders’ eagerness is shown as he shares his thoughts. “I think it is a great idea, because it helps kids in need, and also benefits the toy shops.” He’d participated in donating and gave five toys to Derrick Miller, host of the toy drive.
Peyton Williams, an eighth grader, said “What I like most about the toy drive is the opportunity to donate toys for those in need, especially during Christmas time.” Williams explains how the toy drive works, and says “Students bring unopened toys to the middle school, and donate them to the toy shop.” Although she hasn’t donated just yet, she says she will.
The end of the toy drive at DMS resulted in raising 235 toys for children.
