Christmas is coming up, and Duncan Middle School is filled with excitement and the giving spirit.
The DMS National Junior Honor Society hosted a toy drive from Dec. 2 to 13 with all items being donated to the non-profit the Toy Shop of Duncan.
This is an annual event for the NJHS, which collected more than 240 items during the two-week period.
Sally Wheeler, one of the two NJHS sponsors at Duncan Middle School, said,” It’s a chance for students to give to the community and children in need.”

The Toy Shop of Duncan takes donations and hosts fundraisers throughout the year to ensure that Duncan children in need have gifts at Christmas.
NJHS collected numerous toys and other items from students, which gave them a sizeable donation to give to the Toy Shop. This year improved significantly over the 2023 toy drive, when NJHS donated just over 80 items.
Wheeler said she appreciates the students who donated. She said NJHS is a service organization that is designed to aid the school and community.
“Anything to help others in need,” Wheeler said.
NJHS President-elect Parker Sanders said he likes the toy drive because it does help others.
“The toy drive is a great way to give back to those who might not have as much,” Sanders said. “I think it is a great idea because it helps kids in need, and also benefits the Toy Shop.”
Sanders is one of the students who participated by giving five toys.
NJHS President Peyton Williams said she thinks the toy drive is a great way to get students involved in helping others.
“What I like most about the toy drive is the opportunity to donate toys for those in need, especially during Christmas time,” Williams said.
