Luna is the therapy dog for Duncan Middle School.
She’s owned by the head principal Cassie Berthold. Luna has been a therapy dog since she was 2 years old. Berthold has had Luna for five years.
Her favorite thing about Luna is her personality.
She plans to keep Luna as a therapy dog as long as she is healthy and she can help kids at school. Since DMS has a therapy dog, some students have expressed their opinions on Luna.
Darek Fike, a seventh-grade student, said he appreciate Luna’s attendance at school. Fike said he likes that the dog helps students with stress and helps to sooth them when they have problems.
He described Luna as cuddly, love and helpful. He said Luna is a good for DMS and its students.
Fike isn’t alone in his admiration for the trained therapy dog.
Other seventh-graders Eden Williams, Sophia Sheppard, Genesis Rojas and Ava Pressy all had positive things to say about their four-legged friend.
Rojas said she loves having the dog on campus and how well she helps the kids.
She said Luna is nice and cute.
Pressy also liked that the dog is present to help students.
She said the dog is friendly and sweet.
Williams and Sheppard also described Luna as friendly. Sheppard went on to say that Luna is smart, cute and loving.
These students’ opinions seem to reflect the greater school. Whenever Luna is on campus, she always draws a crowd. Students stop to love on her.
And perhaps that love isn’t one sided.
Luna may enjoy the attention, but her presence has also helped students feel better about their struggles, while at school. Regardless of how someone may be feeling, the addition of the canine companion helps to boost the mood.
Luna is there to show them that someone is there for them and they are not alone.
