Coming off two days of virtual learning, Duncan Public Schools announced it will not have school on Thursday.
A statement by Superintendent Channa Byerly was attached to the closure announcement.
“Due to the extreme negative wind chills expected in the morning, Duncan Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 20,” according to the statement. The safety of our students is always my top priority, and with more than 1,000 students relying on bus transportation and hundreds more walking to school in the morning, these dangerous cold temperatures create a serious concern.”
This will be the third inclement weather day used by Duncan Schools this school year with the first being used in January, only days after the start of the second semester.
School was closed Tuesday and today, but treated as virtual learning days. School was also not in session Friday or Monday for a planned break.
“There will be no virtual learning for the day,” according to the statement. “Please take care, stay warm, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back Friday. Thank you for your understanding and support.”
Duncan isn’t the only school district closing Thursday. Bray-Doyle will also be out of school because of the temperatures and the number of students who ride the bus to school.
