Ensley Kahout is an eighth-grade student at Duncan Middle School with a love for acting and singing.
Kahout is starring in “Into the Woods,” Duncan Little Theatre’s latest musical production. The show opens at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Simmons Center. The show will also be performed Saturday, and Feb. 24 and 25.
“Into the Woods” focuses on a baker and his wife as they try to break a family curse. Along the way, they meet characters from famous fairy tales.
Kahout, who is Cinderella in the play, has practiced for about six hours a day to get ready for the show. To deal with stress, she takes deep breaths and calms herself down.
In the show, Kahout sings two duets and a solo. She ahs two costume changes, which she said wasn’t much compared to others in the show.
She said she likes the cast is is looking forward to each performance.
Derrick Miller, DMS journalism teacher and DLT Board member, has worked on social media publicity for the show is plans to attend a performance.
“I’m excited to see how it turns out,” Millers aid. “I know they’ve been working hard.”
Other DMS students performing in the show include Natalie Waters as Little Red, Kennedy Booth as Cinderella’s mother and Grandmother, Megan Waters as Sleeping Beauty and member of the Living Forest, and Kaitlyn and Kendra Barbarick as members of the Living Forest. Eighth-graders Harper Pitts and Braiden Gregory will also be performing in the orchestra pit.
