In 1977 the world would be shocked with one the most successful films of all time, Star Wars! (later renamed to “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” in 1981) The film stars Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and David Prowse in costume for Darth Vader and James Earl Jones as the voice for Darth Vader. Director George Lucas was inspired by the Sci-fi serials of his childhood, Flash Gordon, Lord of the Rings, and Dune when creating Star Wars, as well as religions such as Buddhism and Christianity.
The story is about a group of rebels trying to get the Death Star plans to a base on Yavin 4. This group comprises Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2-D2, and C-3PO. To achieve the film’s groundbreaking special effects George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) team created the Dykstraflex, the Dykstraflex was a special camera used to film the model ships, the Dykstraflex helped to capture more realistic motion.
One thing that has to be talked about is the amazing score by John Williams, his music for Star Wars is some of his best work, and while this film doesn’t contain his best piece for this franchise it does contain the ever-iconic force theme and the main opening theme for all the main line films. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope is one of the most revolutionary films of all time and is one the best Star Wars films ever made right behind Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
