My name is Erta Jetishi, and I play school volleyball. Volleyball is a sport played by two teams on the opposite side of the court, and there are usually six players on each team. There is a net in between the two teams, the women’s volleyball net is 7’4 (2.24 meters), but it can depend on the age of the players. The men’s net is taller, it is 7’11 (2.43 meters), because men are mostly stronger than women, and their vertical is higher. You have to hit the ball over the net, set up plays, and block the other teams shots/hits. The main goal is just to hit it over and touch the ground in the lines, which is how you get a point. You can only pass the ball three times each time the ball goes over the net to your side. If you touch it more then three times it becomes the other team’s point, if you make any type of contact with a ball then it counts as a touch so be careful, and don’t touch it twice in a row. At our middle school there are three teams, there is JV two, JV main, and varsity. Varsity is the best team, and they go against other varsity players that go to other schools. The same applies for the other teams, but they are not as good as varsity. There are six basic positions in volleyball: outside hitter, opposite hitter, setter, middle blocker, libero, and defensive specialist. I play back row, and front row sometimes, so I can be both opposite hitter, and defensive specialist, I would definitely say receiving the ball back row is the hardest, because people can serve really hard, or our team doesn’t have good communication, so we wouldn’t know who would get the ball. Lastly in volleyball we do drills that help us with communication, moving our feet, rotations, and many more, so it’s super important to pay attention to these drills because it could help you a lot, based off of personal experience.
