This week is parent/teacher conferences, when students and parents can meet with parents to discuss everything from grades to student behavior.
Joni Blackburn, sixth-grade social studies teacher, said she is most excited to see if she gets a good turnout of parents Thursday. Conferences were held Tuesday night, and will continue from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Blackburn said she is least excited to “work until 7 o’clock at night,” although she spends much of the week getting ready.
She said the hardest part about talking to parents is when she has to give them bad news about behavior or grades.
One thing that used to happen was the conferences would be with all of the teachers, and parents would have to scheduled time to meet with those teachers. Now parents can just go in when they want.
Jonah Link, a sixth-grade student, attended conferences Tuesday night. The thing that Link was most excited for was hearing his grades. He was most excited for this because he did not know what his grades were yet.
He said, prior to the conferences, he was nervous about talking to his teachers. But Link said those meetings went well.
