The Veterans Day program started off with the color and flag salute by Boy Scout Troops lead by seventh-grader Ayden Pennypacker.
After the flag salute, Peyton Bull, a seventh-grade DMS student, sang the national anthem. This was followed by Principal Wade Hampton DMS Principal thanking all the parents, veterans and visitors for coming to the assembly.
The DMS sixth through eighth-grade combined chorus sang a tribute to the armed services.
NJHS President Ava Curry gave a speech on what veterans day is and what it means to her. Curry then led a moment of silence.
Oscar Diaz, an eighth-grade DMS student, performed “TAPS” on the Trumpet. Eight- graders recited a poem called “In Flanders Field.” by Col. John McCrae. Another performance was “Song for the Unsung Hero” performed by DMS Pitchforks.
For the event, the guest of honor was Bill Smith, a DMS parent and retired veteran. Smith spoke about what it means to him to be a veteran.
At the end of the program the Boy Scouts retired the flags, and Hampton closed the program.
Sixth-grade student Kole Pizana said he liked the program and has an uncle in the U.S. Army.
