Duncan Middle School’s internet network failed Jan. 17, causing students and teachers to not be able to do work on their Chromebooks.
Assistant Principal Rodney Strutton said the people in the office had trouble functioning without it. The school’s internet returned by the end of seventh hour.
“The cause was that there was a private residence failure,” Strutton said.
The residence, along with the school, uses AT&T for its internet access.
Most classes had to use paper and pencil to work. Cindy Bradburry, sixth-grade English teacher, was one of the few teachers to have access to the internet, but students still couldn’t get on it.
Bradburry said she was glad to have internet, but the students didn’t get to do their journals.
Strutton said there was no control over the residence failure, but the school is also working to improve the network. He said it will take about a week to improve the school’s network.
“The school has gotten so reliant on technology, it was hard to function,” Strutton said.
