Melinda Burk was announced as the Duncan Middle School teacher of the year for the 2016-17 school year.
Burk, a sixth-grade social studies teacher, was selected by a vote of the other DMS teachers.
“It is a great honor,” she said.
Each school in Duncan selects a teacher of the year. From those teachers, an overall teacher of the year is selected and announced during a ceremony.
Burk was alerted to her DMS teacher of the year status Wednesday afternoon, when Duncan Superintendent Melonie Hau met with her.
For Burk, being selected is a big honor because she works with “a bunch of great teachers.”
She said, after she was selected, she got a lot of “good jobs” and hugs.
