Today’s rain has started freezing just outside Duncan Middle School.
Teachers and students are concerned with the weather at DMS.
The weather is set to be cold and rainy all week long with chances of ice. As a result of the nasty weather, all spring sports have been canceled for the day.
Mark Monteith, a teacher at DMS, said the sports cancellations are mostly due to cold temperatures.
“We don’t want anybody getting sick,” said Monteith.
JP Martinez and Marissa Bumgarner are both athletes at DMS.
Martinez said, “We like need to practice and our first game is in like two weeks so.”
Bumgarner says that it’s a good idea to cancel practice because “The ice on roads could be a safety hazard getting home.”
Safety procedures are also being enforced and reviewed. Monteith says that there are safe rooms in every hallway that are reinforced in case the weather does take a turn for the worse.
He also said whether or not school gets canceled is determined by the administration as a result of icy roads or dangerous weather.
Other teachers were asked about icy roads and safety concerns and everyone’s response was “Drive slowly and carefully.”
