The end of the school year is drawing near, and a field day is coming Friday.
Students who purchased yearbooks can go outside toward the start of second hour for yearbook distribution and for outdoor games and activities, such as kickball, volleyball, cornhole and others. During this time, they can do book signings.
“This year marked a change in how we received the book,” Derrick Miller, yearbook and journalism teacher, said. “We opted for a spring delivery instead of fall, which has allowed us to get books in before the end of the school year. Because of that, we’ve chosen to celebrate with a distribution event, our field day.”
Although field day is a distribution event, Miller said time will be set aside for other students to take part in the festivities. Students can pay $1 to participate.
The event, which is a fundraiser for the DMS Journalism Department, will also include concessions, to allow students to purchase various food items, from hot dogs to popcorn.
The money raised from ticket sales and concessions will help purchase needed equipment and software for the yearbook and journalism program at Duncan Middle School.
Those who did not purchase a yearbook can do so while supplies last. Each book is $30 and can be purchased in Miller’s classroom, Room 297.
