Duncan Middle School eighth-graders prepared for life in high school, thanks to a visit from some of Duncan’s high school students.
On Friday, the high school students spent the day with the middle schoolers to show how things will be when they level up. The orientation consisted of teach building games, school spirit, academic requirements and a session titled “High School 101.”
Meridith Mulkey was among the group of high school students who helped with the program. Mulkey said she enjoyed interacting with the eighth-graders.
“I’m in leadership, so I help explain to middle schoolers what we all do in the high school,” she said. “I actually enjoy it. It’s tons of fun.”
Eighth-grade students were divided into two groups: An a.m. group and a p.m. group. Based on their time, classes spent half of the day with their high school peers. Several of the eighth-graders said they learned a lot from orientation.
Linsay Cox said she learned that keeping her grades up and joining clubs would allow her to have a fun high school career.
Makinzy Pratt, another eighth-grader, had similar thoughts.
“There are many open opportunities and experiences where you can get involved,” said Makinzy Pratt.
