In the third quarter of Tuesday’s football game, Nathan Henry caught a curve ball and took off running, leading to an 80-yard
touchdown for the Duncan Demons. Henry, an eighth-grader, said he originally thought the ball was going to his teammate
Reece Williams; and apparently, everyone else on the Elgin team thought the same thing, giving Henry and opening to score.
The eighth-grade team didn’t win, falling to the Owls 22 to 14. This loss is the third consecutive loss for the Demons this season and the first at home. However, for Henry, his touchdown was the highlight of the game.
“I was thinking, ‘Man, my feet are on fire,'” he said about what was going through his head as he ran toward his touchdown.
Williams said Henry showed great speed when running down the field to make his touchdown.
“He looked like Forrest Gump,” Williams said.
Henry has been playing football since he was 6. He said he like to hit and run, which is why he enjoys football so much. He said he saw improvement in his team during Tuesday’s game and hopes to see that trend continue.
“We worked better as a team,” Henry said. “This was game was better than any of our other games.”
The next game for the Duncan Middle School Demons will be this coming Tuesday at home against Lawton Ike. Seventh grade will play at 5 p.m., and eighth grade will play at 6:30 p.m.
