As you may or may not know the middle school has a garden. The former caretaker of the garden, sixth-grade science teacher Jeanna Russell, retired at the end of the 2017-18 school year. Since then, the garden has over grown to a great extent.
The 2018-19 newspaper class has talked about cleaning it up and using it for a peaceful learning space. This space will allow for students to get out of the typical classroom into an outdoor classroom. Students will have a hands-on learning environment.
“We’re in discussion right now,” DMS Principal Rodney Strutton, said. “Mr. (Derrick) Miller and his classes will be working with the Boy Scouts to get things rolling.”
Volunteers are needed to clean and maintain the learning space. Dates are to be announced.
