The Bedlam contest ended today, with counselor Bubba Clark being duct taped to the gym wall.
The contest, which ran from Nov. 5 through 9, allowed students and teachers to donate money to containers marked either for the Oklahoma State Cowboys or for the University of Oklahoma Sooner. Depending on which container received the most money, one of two people would be duct taped to the wall.
Because the Sooners received more funds, Clark was selected for that honor. If the OSU container had received more money, Principal Rodney Strutton would have been taped to the wall instead.
The Bedlam contest was a fundraiser hosted by the Duncan Middle School Student Council as a way to help the school and the community. A total of $920 was raised through this fundraiser, which ended the Friday for the Bedlam rivalry game, which took place Sunday. In a similar fashion to the actual game, the Sooner managed to pull off a victory over the Cowboys.
Even though his team didn’t win in the fundraising contest, Clark said it was a worthwhile experience. Prior to classes today, student council members used rolls of duct tape to stick Clark to the wall.
However, he only remained stuck to the wall for about 3 seconds before coming loose.
“It was a fun, exciting and scary experience because I didn’t know how long it was going to hold me,” Clark said.
Throughout the week of the Bedlam contest, daily updates on the amount raised by each container was announced. And every day, the Sooners led the fundraising. Both containers managed to raise enough funds to the student council give back to the school.
The student council has discussed using the money to help the Humane Society or to purchase new walkie-talkies for the Duncan Middle School office.
