It’s that time of year when the leaves are falling and turkeys are selling like Pop-Tarts.
Duncan Middle School students each have their own plans, traditions, favorite dishes, and favorite things. Rylee Branch, Noelia Devora, and Allison Bailey are the three seventh-graders who are ready for Thanksgiving.
Branch said, “For Thanksgiving Break I am getting braces, and for Thanksgiving day I’m going to my grandparents.”
She said she’s eager for the holiday because it gives her an opportunity to spend time with her family.
“Our Thanksgiving traditions are my family and I always go to my grandparents house, we cook, and we play bingo,” Branch said. “My favorite Thanksgiving dishes are corn casserole and the homemade pumpkin pie my grandma makes.”
“I’m excited, because I have fun traditions, and I have a new cousin now, so it’ll be his first Thanksgiving.”
Devora said she is looking forward to Thanksgiving because she gets to see most of her family that she rarely sees.
“My plans are to eat a lot, hangout with my cousins and dance,” Devora said. “The dish I’m looking forward to is my aunt’s mac and cheese. It’s just so good; it melts into your mouth.
“All the food I get to eat and just getting to hangout with all my family is my favorite part about Thanksgiving.”
For Bailey, food and family are important parts of the holiday.
“I’m excited for Thanksgiving, because I can eat and hangout with family,” she said.
This year Bailey is going to go to her grandparents’ house, where she will eat and watch football.
“Mashed potatoes is one of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes,” Bailey said. “Watching football and eating is what I’m looking forward to this year.”
