On Nov. 3, 35 kids went to Altus HIgh School to compete for All-Region Band, but only 24 kids made it.
Many schools from around the area took their top band students to compete in the competition. The students had to put forth their best effort in the contest.
When students enter the contest, they have a certain time to play the music they’re supposed to play, and judges rate them up to 100. Students are then awarded chairs from 1 to as many students who made it.
Students who get first chair in each instrument received the highest scores in the contest.
“That band is awesome, but it takes a lot of hard work,” Maddison Thomas, eighth-grade band student, said.
Lyndsey Williams, another eighth-grade band student, had similar thoughts.
“That it takes a lot of practice and is very fun,” Williams said.
