One of the biggest problems at Duncan Middle School is bullying.
To address this problem, DMS has set aside this week as the annual Anti-Bullying Week with an assembly set for Thursday. The goal is to share awareness of bullying and to inspire students to be nice to one another.
The assembly is set for 8 a.m. Thursday in the Duncan Middle School Gym.
Drama students are creating a skit to explain bullying and how you can stand up to it. Other student organizations, such as choir, cheerleading, seventh-grade journalism students and others will also be involved in the assembly.
This year the choir will be singing “Wonderful Life” from the movie “Small Foot.”
In addition to the assembly, there are dress-up days set for the week. These include:
Today: Blue Out for Anti-Bullying Week
Tuesday: I’ll Be There for You Day, where students will wear their “Friends” clothes and gear.
Wednesday: Don’t Rest When You See Bullying Day, where students can wear school-appropriate pajamas.
Thursday: Spirit Day, where students can wear their Demon red.
This year’s Anti-Bullying Week theme is “Don’t Be Cruel, Be Cool.”
Down Below will be the contest rules, Anti-bullying dress-up days, and everything else.
Additionally, the week also features two contests.
The essay contest will answer the question “What could you do to prevent bullying. Essays should be between 250 to 1,000 words.
The art contest should reflect the week’s theme.
