Tanner Zumwalt is seen often at the Duncan Middle School through volunteering and outreach. Zumwalt is the youth middle school pastor at Ray of Hope Church.
FCA or Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an organization at many schools throughout the United States. At the middle school, the organization takes place during lunch and provides an opportunity to connect with God.
Zumwalt talked about bad labels and how they should not be used to define people. He spoke during all three lunch periods to talk with all FCA students. In all, about 245 students attended Wednesday’s FCA meetings.
Eighth-grade student Caleb Huizar said FCA is a way to try to correct personal errors and stay with God.
During the lunch periods, pizza is served as part of the FCA meeting.
During FCA, Zumwalt said that some people might be there just for pizza, but the hope is that they get introduced to God through FCA.
Reyna Murillo, sixth-grade students, was among those who went to FCA on Wednesday. Murillo said she enjoyed the fellowship and the lesson about living a Christian life.
“I enjoyed it because it was a good message and the pizza was amazing,” Murillo said.
She said she would go back to FCA.
Murillo wasn’t the only student who would return.
Mason Imel, an eighth-grade student, said he goes to FCA every time it’s held and had done so since he was a sixth-grader.
“It’s fun because we get to learn about God and have lunch at the same time,” Imel said.

The next FCA meeting will be during lunches on Dec. 11 in the wrestling room.
