We interviewed several students about how the student section affects the game. This year the student section only had about twenty people at the most in it and we’re disappointed that people weren’t very involved.
We asked players and coaches if the student section should get more involved, if the student section affects the game and the way they play, and if they think it’s important to have a good student section.
Eighth-grade student Callen Villagrana said, “Yeah I think we could definitely use a bit more kids, but I know whenever I do something good that they’ll cheer me on so it always makes me feel good.”
We also interviewed teacher and coach Shantika Scott and she responded with “Yes and no. Sometimes people in the student section can go a little too far, but if they are being positive, it’s good that they support. It does affect the way they play because sometimes my players are paying attention to the student section and they aren’t focused on the court. It’s good to have a good student section because it shows the players that they have support for their classmates.”
We then asked seventh graders Jesse Mendinghall and Nolan Coskrey how they felt about it and both agreed that the student section should get more involved and more people should come. They think it affects them by making them play better. They like that the student section hypes them up.
There are spring sports that will be starting up soon and our athletes would love to have your support. It makes a big difference.
