The varsity volleyball girls won in the third set after Kierney Holthaus hit the game winning serve to put Duncan over El Reno on Tuesday.
The Lady Demons won their first set, which was followed by a loss in the second. However, the third set’s win was enough to leverage the team over El Reno. The final score was 2-1.
“The team played great,” eighth-grader team member Kenzie Sherrill said. “The other team was not the best.”
Emma Evans, a seventh-grade team member, said practice has been an important part of the team’s game play. She said many of the team members haven’t played volleyball before with the exception of the eighth-grade players.
She said practice has helped t
he team learn more about playing volleyball and improving as a a team. But even with practice, Evans said there are still areas the volleyball players can improve.
“The team did decently for their first game because they got their serves over, but they didn’t communicate as much as they needed to,” Evans said.
The next game for the Lady Demons will be at 4 p.m. today when they face off against Lawton Ike at Lawton Ike. The JV1 and varsity teams will play.
