Duncan Middle School’s volleyball teams both received losses Thursday in their sets against Lawton Ike.
The DMS junior varsity team lost 0-2, while the varsity team was defeated 1-2.
The junior varsity match was back and forth, but Duncan couldn’t pull off a win in either set it played against Ike.
“The team played great,” seventh-grader Emma Evans said. “We communicated well, but I didn’t get all my served over like I wanted to. We overestimated Lawton Ike. So for the first set it was like we were playing in fear.”
The varsity game went into overtime as the two teams battled it out.
Duncan lost the first set but picked up a win in the second set. It was in the third set that Duncan was dealt its losing blow, bringing the final score 1-2.
Eighth-grader Amiya Williams said she was proud of the team, but was disappointed with the loss.
“The team played well,” Williams said. “But they underestimated Lawton Ike.”
Previously, the varsity team picked up a win on Monday against El Reno.
For the next volleyball game, the varsity team will face Elgin Middle School at 4 p.m. Monday at DMS.
