Duncan Middle School seventh-graders don’t get to play their first football game, when eighth-grade football starts on Sept. 1.
This throws off the entire schedule. We’ll have to make up the game at the end of the season. The team will either have to make it up with Marlow or Lawton Tomlinson.
Lawton Tomlinson only has 22 football players from sixth grade to eighth grade. We’re letting our eighth grade play because it’s their last year to play at DMS.
The only way we would have gotten to play is if Lawton Tomlinson had gotten to team up with Lawton Central. But Lawton Central turned down their offer because their schedule was too full.
It kind of feels unfair because during practice we sit there and watch. We stretch, run a few catching drills to warm up the quarterback and then we just stand and watch.
I talked to Jayce Ramirez about it. He also felt it was unfair.
We’ve been practicing for a couple of weeks now and have worked hard, but we don’t even get to play now, Ramirez said.
Because of the delayed start, the seventh-grade football team won’t play until Sept. 8, when we face Durant at home.
If I could fix it, I would see if any other Lawton team would team up with Tomlinson.
I do feel like we’ve worked way too hard to not get to play, but we’ve just got to go and support our eighth-grade team.
