See You at the Pole offered a much different experience this year and in past years with fewer people in attendance, no doughnuts and no songs lyrics being passed out.
The annual event, which takes place each year around the flag pole at Duncan Middle School, featured one youth pastor leading the group in song and prayer.
“This year is different because last year there were doughnuts,” seventh-grader Jeremy Able said.
With concerns related to COVID-19, students were required to wear masks, especially since they were in close proximity of one another around the flag pole and while praying. The ongoing pandemic might have also affected attendance.
Something else that was different was no students lead the praying for the entire group. Instead, students broke into smaller groups with written out prayers to pray for family, friends, school and nation.
Able said he prayed for school administrators and teachers.
