Duncan Middle School’s Green Club is up and running again.
In all, 11 students and two teachers participated in Tuesday’s Green Club meeting, which took place in the school garden. Some of the members in attendance were in Green Club last year, while some other students (including sixth-graders) were new this year.
During the meeting, students started measuring the garden to determine how much fence needs to be replaced. Students also took down some decorations that were hanging up, including a deteriorating scarecrow.
Club members also tore weeds out of the flower beds and removed rocks out of the pond. The club is also working on replacing the north side fence , as well as getting old stakes out of the ground.
Mark Monteith, one of the club sponsors, said the club is working on getting the garden clean up so students and staff members can use the outdoor space to work in. Monteith said he wants to get the garden cleaned up because it has been out of use because of neglect.
This change will encourage students and staff members to at least try to work on keeping the garden picked up and clean.
