Duncan Middle School Band has a tradition of hosting a pie sale as a fundraiser for the program.
But this year, the fundraiser has changed. Instead of pies, the band students will sell butter braids and cake rolls.
The reason why the pie fundraiser was called off was because the company who makes the pies couldn’t get enough of all of the ingredients needed to make the pies because of the COVID-19 pandemic. many of the students who sell the pies and the customers who buy them were disappointed.
“I don’t really care that the pies were called off, and I don’t really care for the new stuff either,” band student Armando Garcia-Diaz said.
Butter braids were the spring fundraiser during the last school year. The band still has the goal of selling the same amount of items this year.
The money helps with band trips to away football games and contest, and to purchase new instruments and equipment for the band.
One plus to the change in fundraisers is that the butter braids are less expensive than pies. The cake rolls come in six flavors, and the butter braids come in eight flavors.
