Food goods for the National Junior Honor Society canned food drive are due no later than Friday at the Duncan Middle School.
NJHS sponsors Derrick Miller and Amber Molina have been taking cans since Oct. 12. Molina is on the eighth-grade hall in a science classroom. Miller is in the journalism classroom on the seventh-grade hall.
The food drive is seeking any non-perishable food items, such as green beans and corn. But any canned food or pre-packaged food is acceptable.
Molina said the canned food drive started off slow, but she hopes to see more cans turned in.
“We’re hoping to receive around 50 to 75,” Molina said.
As of today, 58 cans were received.
NJHS members receive one point per every five cans turned in. The food drive is open to all students and teachers at Duncan Middle School.
The food collected will be given to Christians Concerned, a non-profit food pantry in Duncan.
