On Tuesday, the teachers and students enjoyed a day off from school, because of heavy rains and freezing temperatures the roads were unsafe for the buses and the cars to travel to the school. It is very unusual for Duncan to be getting ice this early in the season. Some students lost power that day as well as many of other people in different towns, and some still have no power. The decision was made to cancel school Monday evening by the school board and superintendent at around 7:30 at night.
Most students spent their day indoors and doing things like playing video games, sleeping, and other indoor activities, but some students did unique things, like finding ways to play indoor sports and building things.
Students were interviewed over what they did during the snow day. “While I stayed home I played Rocket League and slept,” says Zekie Eckert. Along with 2 other students in the 6th grade. Raelyn Crow said “Over the break I went to the facility to hit some softballs.” Kierston McNutt said “I helped out at a daycare and went to play outside.”
After that the head principal Mr. Strutton was asked if the DMS would have to make up a day of school? He replied, “No,”, so that was a good sign for the students.
The following days are similar weather except that it was just above freezing, so there was no ice. It will be a while until it gets dry from all the pouring rain. This will not affect sports due to the fact that all the winter sports are indoors. This could be a sign for the things to come for winter and the rest of fall.
