This year, the All-Region Band Competition is going to be different because of Covid-19.
So instead of going somewhere in Lawton to compete, the band members will have to do the competition in the Duncan High School band room. This year, those competing will be recorded instead of performing in front of the judges.
Those choosing to do All-Region this year, will be pulled during their band period. They have been practicing for a while.
It costs $14 to compete. Those competing have to play two songs and scale or three songs and no scales. It depends on what instrument the competitor plays.
“I was nervous at first, and then it wore off,” eighth-grade saxophone player Luke McFatridge said. “All-Regions was fun, and of course, I would do it again, but the music was hard at first. I kept practicing.”
Brendan Heilman, a seventh-grade band member, said he felt nervous and felt he could have done better. Heilman plans to do it again next year, too.
