On Nov. 2, Duncan Middle School made the decision that parents and guardians would not be allowed to attend student athletic practices.
Instead, students will practice as they normally do, but without any visitors. The Athletic Department is trying to minimize possible exposure to COVID-19 during the ongoing pandemic.
While there can be visitors during various sporting events, such as games and matches, many of these events require masks for spectators.
The mask mandate was voted on and approved by the Duncan Board of Education before the school year began. Students are required to wear masks during their regular school days, and some sports, including football, softball and wrestling, allow them to play without wearing a mask.
Although it’s uncertain when the COVID-19 pandemic will clear up, the school district could change its rules about visitors during practices in the future.
