The Duncan Middle School Girls’ Basketball Team lost its first game, as they faced against Lawton MacArthur.
The final score was 20 to 44 with Lawton Mac coming away from the game with the first victory of the season. The 24 point loss didn’t reflect the expectations some of the DMS players had going into the game.
Amiya Williams, eighth-grade player, said she felt confident that Duncan could win the game prior to playing. But the eighth-grade team didn’t cinch the victory.
Duncan Middle School basketball teams all play Elgin today, and Williams said she feels much more confident about the Elgin game than the Lawton Mac game.
“I do think we will win 100 percent,” Williams said. “Elgin isn’t very good, so yes, we will win.”
The season has started with with the girls practicing daily, sometimes until at 5 p.m. The coach for the eighth-grade girls is Dillon Southerland. The coach for seventh-grade girls is Shantika Scott.
