Duncan Middle School STEM class are preparing for their first ever Giving Tree.
The Christmas tree is aimed at helping families at DMS who cannot buy things around the holiday season, as well as helping with the Stephens County Humane Society.
Through the Giving Tree, students can donated perishable food items to those families. They can donated other items, too, such as toys, blankets and other things families may also need. The ultimate goal is for families in need to have necessary items around the holiday season.
“The Giving Tree is about helping out others,” STEM teacher Rosie Castle said. “We are going to provide lots of items that are usually unavailable in our school pantry and hopefully provide lots of excitement for the animals at the Humane Society.”
The Giving Tree project will involve both Castle’s and Renea Lawler’s classes. The project officially kicked off Monday and will run through Christmas Break.
Students do not have to be in STEM to donate to the families and the Humane Society. National Junior Honor Society members will receive a point for every five items they donate.
The STEM classes aim to have as many items donated so that all families can have an enjoyable holiday season.
