The first academic meet of the school year concluded with Duncan Team One coming away with first place.
The meet took place Tuesday, and Lawton Tomlinson took second place and Duncan Team Two rounded out the top three by taking third place.
Duncan One won both of their matches against Tomlinson and Duncan Two, and Tomlinson won against Duncan Two but lost against Duncan One, and Duncan Two lost both their matches. The meet lasted about three hours, starting about 9:30 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m.
In the first round, Duncan Two lost to Tomlinson by a score of 100-60. The second round concluded with Duncan One beating Tomlinson by a score of 220-110. In the last round, Duncan One beat Duncan Two 160-70. By this, Duncan One advanced to regionals, but Duncan Two did not advance.
Last year Duncan’s first team also came away with first as well.
Duncan One is composed of Noah McFatridge, Luke McFatridge, Landon Thacker, Ava Miller, Averie Knapp, Joseph Stroud and Bralen Churchman. Duncan Team Two has Megan Bumpas, Cameron Ferguson, Harrison Talbot, Devan Johnson, Bennett Burch, Caseley Adams and Laura Stewart.
“I felt like our teams did very well at the meet,” co-head coach Rosie Castle said. “I feel like Team Two needs to build confidence for answering and Team One needs to build up their strong areas of focus.”
She also said that the teams work well together.
Team one member Ava Miller also had some thoughts.
“I had lots of fun at the meet,” said Ava Miller.
Miller also thought that the questions were very hard.
The next meet for the teams has yet to be announced.
