On Tuesday, a taco truck went to the Duncan Regional Hospital to help feed the nurses and doctors who have been working day and night amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
As for students, National Junior Honor Society members decided to help make posters thanking the healthcare workers.
It started when a group of people wanted to do something for the healthcare workers to let them know that people value them. It took place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Most of the people that helped out were people that heard about the event, but some organizations helped out. Special Days Cake helped donate cookies, while another Bible study group donated all the drinks.
Cheryl Imel, one of the helpers at the event, felt good about doing the event.
“The whole thing felt like a hug of hope for the workers,” Imel said. “I thought that the students made a huge impact at the event.”
Shannon Sanders, another worker at the event, also felt good.
“Just to see the healthcare workers face made me feel real good,” Sanders said.
Sanders and Imel both said that the popularity of the event was overwhelming, and lots of workers were amazed.
A number of students also took part in the event with over 70 signs made by members of the Duncan High School Student Council and the Duncan Middle School National Junior Honor Society students, as well as other students. Most of the people that helped out are starting to plan a similar event in the future, but the details have yet to be worked out.
