Career Day is coming up Thursday.
First students that have an elective class during first hour will be put in a different class. Students will log in to the career exhibits so they can have the tour. Later they will have access to come back. Not every student will have a one on one with a counselor.
The eighth grade will turn in their forms Friday during social studies.
“It’s an opportunity to try and expose students to careers that are possible to them,” counselor Laura Jones said.
Career Day for eighth grade happens every year. However, this year will be all virtual instead of featuring in-person tours on hands-on experiences.
Eighth-grade science teacher Amber Molina said she is disappointed about the virtual aspect of the day, but understands the change.
“I wish it was in person because it’s more hands-on,” Molina said. “I feel you guys would have more fun.”
People like Angie Garcia need this kind of day just to help her and show her the possible careers to give her the right idea. Garcia doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up.
” I’m not excited,” she said. “What’s the point?
I will fill out the form tonight.”
Neither of the eighth-grade science teachers had a career day when they were in eighth grade, although both went to Duncan Middle School.
“I think it’s a good thing to think about, and you guys need to be exposed to this young to know what ya’ll want to be when you grow up or just your plans for high school and the classes you want to take,” science teacher Autumn Gordon said. “You will have fun and it will direct you in the right direction for your future plans.”
The day may help some middle school students determine the field they hold to follow, whether its criminal justice, medicine or something else.
