With Duncan Middle school’s Solo and Ensembles competition getting postponed until March 6th, the band members are given more time to perfect their music. Unlike last year with the competition being held at McArthur high school, this year it is being held in Elgin.
All students who signed up for this competition had 3 different songs to choose from. Each person or group that signed up ranges from solos to even a quartet.
Each ensemble or soloist had to pay their dues by January 21st in order to compete. After that, members began working hard on their music in preparation for the competition.
Daniel Bower, an 8th grade trumpet said “I’m doing a solo called “ Renaissance Festival” and I think I will do well when I compete”.
Delilah Ballard, a 7th grade flute said “I am in a duet and a quartet.”
For the duet, she has a music piece titled “Two Shining Star” and her quartet piece is titled “ Blow The Man Down”. Delilah also said her quartet could use a little more tuning and sound changes before the groups compete.
Dawn Haas, one of the band directors, thinks that her students that are doing the competition will do great when they compete. Dawn Haas said her words of advice are “the more you practice the better prepared you are for this competition.” She also said no matter how nervous you are for the competition, just take a few deep breaths and try your best.
