The Duncan Little Theater is hosting an upcoming musical called “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”
It tells the story of, unsurprisingly, a spelling bee. The play is about six middle schoolers, each with different characteristics, competing to win the county’s annual spelling bee and the grand prize.
The shows will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and March 5 and 6 at the Palace Theater. All shows (except the Sunday show, which will start at 1 p.m.) will start at 7:30 p.m., and doors will open at 7 p.m.
But there will be something different about this play.
Four volunteers from each show will be randomly picked to take part in the play.
The prices will be $20 for adults and $15 for military personnel, seniors, and students.
The story was written by author Rachel Sheinken, which then was a book, and then made into an award-winning play on Broadway.
Courtney Miles, music teacher at DMS, plays the spelling bee host Mrs. Rona Lisa Peretti in the play.
“DLT has been working hard to put on this show during the time of the pandemic, being very conscious of everyone’s safety and health,” Miles said. “It has been very exciting to be back on stage for the first time in over a year.
“The play has a small cast, so everyone gets the chance to shine and really show the audience who their character’s are.”
In addition, Duncan Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society members will volunteer as ushers for each performance, earning service points for themselves.
