Parent-teacher conferences will be on March 8th and 9th. They are the week before Spring Break, but, because the teachers will have to stay late, DMS gets Friday off, too. The meetings will start at three and end at seven. No student is required to go, but the parent can go, and see how their child is doing. The teachers plan by getting grades pulled and getting their classrooms prepared for every student.
Brenda Hurley, one of the eighth-grade English teachers, said, ”I think they will go great! My fav way to do a conference is with the student there too, so they can lead the meeting. What tends to happen the most are the kids that are doing AMAZING parents come and the ones that need to don’t. Yes. I usually send out progress reports and the ones that feel they need a conference come and the others don’t. I sit and wait and wait and wait in my room!”
This will be the last parent-teacher conference of the year, as we have finished up the last nine weeks. After this, they will be on Spring Break and have state testing to look forward to as the next big event.
Jill Bates, one of the seventh-grade social studies teachers, said, ”I think they will do great. I enjoy getting a chance to visit with parents/guardians about their children. Whether it be good or bad. I have not had to request any parents. I usually leave it up to the parent on whether or not they would like to see me. After conferences, if I feel like I need to visit with a parent I call them. I do, I like to have papers printed off for parents to see their child’s grade and what they are missing in class. I usually have extra copies of all assignments on hand, in case the parents would like for me to gather work. I like for everything to be organized and easy for everyone who comes to my room. No one likes to see a teacher in chaos!”
