On March second, the Duncan Middle School band went to a competition at the highschool auditorium. The results were a win from Duncan, with all one’s. One’s are the highest level of scoring you can get in a competition, and DMS received them in all categories. One was even received in the sight reading category, which is the one most kids were worried about more than the others. Band Director Jeramy Haas says, “There was definitely room for improvement, but they did good overall. A win is a win.” Eighth grader Isaac Pain also feels the band did well. “We had to switch up some parts because people were gone, but overall we clutched up and won,” he says.
Eighth grade band member and saxophone player Luke McFatridge loves traveling for band competitions. “My favorite part about traveling for band is getting to hang out with your friends. The band is really close, so we all like to hang out during bus rides and stuff. Overall, band really is a fun activity, and people should give it a chance and try it,” McFatridge said. “Bus rides are fun; we sleep, we talk, and we just hang out. Sometimes we do fun stuff, but most of the time we just sit and do nothing.”
The last band concert will be after spring break at the highschool auditorium. Band members will be playing many songs, including one called “Drive” that many members are excited to play.
