The 7th-grade stem class is doing a sheep brain dissection for about a week. They will be in groups of 2 and will be using a sterile scapula, safety goggles, lab apron, rubber gloves, sterile tray, and many more tools. They will be treating the brain dissection as a real patient and they are the doctor.
“It isn’t very hard to find the sheep brains but is very expensive,” Castle said. Mrs. Castle says “ My students have enjoyed this dissection project for every year I’ve done it.”
The reason they dissect a sheep’s brain is that it is the closest animal that has all parts of a human brain, but the size is different. Rosie enjoys helping her students with this project every year. There is a two-part grade for this project. The first part is to label all the parts which are 200 points, and the second part is correctly diagnosing their patient/brain. They also have to find the tumor in 3 or fewer cuts and remove it.
