On Aug. 25, 2020, many people, who live in the Duncan School District, voted for the biggest bond issue in school history, giving money to the school to pay for many different things that needed to be done.
Now the bond money is still being used to help repair, renovate and build facilities in the school system. There are many new things that will come to DMS, such as a new roof next year and new Chromebooks for all grades and teachers.
Across the district, other improvements are expected, including upgrades to the Duncan High School auditorium, and handicap and restroom upgrades for the football stadium.
Money will also be given to several sports and organizations, like band, choir, drama and other extracurricular activities, so they can purchase new equipment for their organization. Earlier this week, band students were measured for new uniforms.
Locker rooms and safe rooms will also begin to be made.
“We are going to focus and make decisions based on what’s best for Duncan Public Schools,” Superintendent Tom Deighan said in the latest bond update video, which was released Monday.
Many of the upgrades and other improvements going on will most likely be in place by next year, Deighan said, mentioning specifically the Chromebooks and the roof at the middle school.
The bond oversight committee will start meeting in April to discuss these new things. Some new items have already been bought, such as band uniforms, a new Voip phone system for all classrooms and entry cards system for the high school.
Many new things are on the horizon, Deighan said.
And when it is all said and done, the Duncan schools will have many new upgrades.
“It’s going to be a good thing to see these things happen,” Deighan said.
