Duncan Middle School teachers were among nine educators from Duncan Public Schools who attended a PLC conference in Orlando, Florida.
Through the workshop, they learned about Professional Learning Communities, which are designed to have all teachers develop curriculum and to focus on what standards they want students to learn. The goal is to ensure all students learn.
Middle school teachers who attended included Jennifer Cobble, eighth-grade math; Davis Loafman, eighth-grade science; Melissa Mayo, art; Derrick Miller, journalism; Drew Wortham, seventh-grade social studies. Other DPS educators attending included curriulum director Allison Lovett, Duncan High School Principal Kelly Trinidad; DHS Assistant Principal Tim Hightower and DHS social studies teacher Kc Barrington. Barrington and Hightower were previously at the middle school.
The trip was paid for by Gear Up, an organization focused on college readiness. The conference was hosted by Solution Tree. The teachers attended the conference from July 10 to 12, and learned about various elements of PLC implementation and enhancing their class lessons.
