Every month, teachers from across Duncan Public Schools vote for a teacher of the month. For March, the teacher of the month was Title I teacher Patti Thaxton.
“Being the teacher of the month is exciting and it makes me feel special,” Thaxton said.
She has been teaching for 35 years, and she plans to teach for many more years to come. Thaxton has taught at Lee Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Emerson Elementary and Duncan Middle School, where she currently works.
During each month, DPS Central Office emails forms to teachers across the school district so they can submit nominations for the monthly award. From those nominees, one winner is chosen.
“I think I got the award because I try to be helpful to other teachers and to be available when needed,” Thaxton said. “However, I didn’t think I was going to win because I didn’t know I was being nominated.”
Thaxton said she didn’t know who nominated her, but she is happy to get the award. For winning Teacher of the Month, she received free drinks from Chicken Express for a month, a gift certificate for a free meal from the restaurant and 50 dollars.
