After a long wait, the seventh-grade boys’ bathroom has finally reopened.
An announcement was made Wednesday at the end of the second hour to let the students know that the bathroom was reopened. The bathroom had been closed since the end of January after students trashed and vandalized the bathroom. The vandalism, as well as treating the restroom poorly, led to the school eventually closing the restroom.
The seventh-grade boys’ bathroom had already closed once because of the vandalism once before, but the other bathrooms around the school have remained open almost the entire year.
“I’m pretty happy that the bathrooms were reopened,” seventh-grader Jayce Ramirez said. “I was pretty disappointed in the behavior of the students when they got closed, but behavior has definitely improved since then.”
If the behavior improves, as far as care of the restrooms goes, they will stay open. However, if poor behaviors remains, the restrooms could close again and stay closed for the remained of the school year.
With the restrooms closed, the seventh-grade boys had to check in with the office before using the restroom in the DMS commons.
However, with only seven weeks to go in the school year, another closing of the seventh-grade bathroom is unlikely. But Ramirez doesn’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility.
“To be honest, I don’t think the bathrooms will stay open the rest of the year,” he said.
