The state testing window opened on April 6 with virtual students coming to school to test. This week, in-person testing started Monday with the seventh-grade math test.
This week, seventh-grade is testing in math and English, which should be completed today. Sixth-graders, who are also testing in math and English, are scheduled to test Wednesday and Thursday. Eighth-grade testing will run all next week, ending on April 22.
Unlike sixth and seventh-grade students, eighth grade will be testing on more than just made and English. In fact, eighth-graders will also test on writing and science for a total of four subjects.
Sixth-grader Tristen Carrasco has mixed feelings about state testing starting soon.
“I’m not ready, but I am at the same time,” Carrasco said. “My teachers taught me a lot, and I feel like they did a good job reviewing the stuff we learned.”
Although he feels he personally could use a little more review on certain subjects, Carrasco feels good about the tests and is confident he will pass.
Seventh-grader Billy McClinton said he was nervous about state testing, which started Monday for seventh-graders.
“I think I’m prepared, but I’m also kind of nervous for the outcome and what’s gonna happen,” McClinton said.
For the next two weeks, a special schedule will be devised for each grade level, where students will rotate among core classes in the morning when they aren’t testing. Elective teachers will be proctoring throughout the testing days.
